FFXIV 5.4 picks up after the Warriors of Light secured the First. Now, they return to the Source, but the fate of the world is far from certain.
Some of the challenges awaiting them include a new Emerald Weapon trial and a souped-up Titan trial for characters level 80 and higher.
Players can tackle the new Archon Matoya dungeon with friends or NPCs, and if all that combat is too much, the new Explorer Mode lets adventurers turn Shadowbringers’ dungeons into their own photo studios with no enemies.
Sorrow of Werlyt, Save the Queen, and Ishgardian Restoration all get new chapters in 5.4, and completing Save the Queen unlocks two new tiers for Resistance Weapons.
Finally, the Blue Mage job gets tweaked even more, with a level cap up to 70, plus new magic and new equipment.
Final Fantasy XIV 5.4 goes live for free on December 8 for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility. The game is free up through the end of Heavensword for new players.
